Udhayanidhi Stalin unfit for public life: Minister Nirmalkumar

Tamil Nadu Minister for Energy and Law R. Nirmalkumar has stated that DMK youth wing secretary and Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin is unfit to enter the Assembly and be in public life. The Minister’s comments came in response to Udhayanidhi Stalin’s arrest on allegations of making misogynistic remarks during a demonstration in Thanjavur on August 3.

Mr. Nirmalkumar questioned whether the family members of the DMK would accept Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remarks, adding that he has no understanding of the Cauvery and Mekedatu issues. He also stated that Udhayanidhi Stalin is unfit to remain Leader of the Opposition and that a person with such an attitude towards women has no qualification to enter the Legislative Assembly.

MDMK general secretary Vaiko also condemned Udhayanidhi Stalin, alleging that he had made remarks that reduced him to the level of a fourth-rate platform speaker. Mr. Vaiko said that Udhayanidhi Stalin ought to have exercised restraint while addressing a protest meeting in Thanjavur and that his remarks are unbecoming of the Leader of the Opposition.

In contrast, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has objected to Udhayanidhi Stalin’s arrest, urging the TVK-led Tamil Nadu government to drop the arrest proceedings ahead of the Assembly session scheduled to commence on August 5. Mr. Palaniswami stated that the post of the Leader of the Opposition is a key position in the Assembly and that it is condemnable that this government intends to have the session without the person holding that post.

Mr. Nirmalkumar responded to Mr. Palaniswami’s objection, stating that he is hiding behind the DMK and that there was a time when Udhayanidhi Stalin made defamatory remarks against Puratchi Thalaivi Amma (Jayalalithaa) without any action being taken against him.

The controversy surrounding Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remarks has sparked a heated debate in the state, with various political leaders weighing in on the issue.
