DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran has launched a scathing attack on his rivals, accusing them of displaying ‘fascist’ tendencies and betraying the interests of Tamil Nadu over various issues including the Cauvery water dispute and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
In a strongly worded post, Maran targeted political leaders who compromise their convictions for positions and power, describing them as ‘venomous snakes who sell their loyalty for posts.’ He also questioned the commitment of leaders who visit Tamil Nadu but fail to speak about the state’s rights over Cauvery water.
Maran argued that opposing Karnataka’s proposed Mekedatu reservoir project is essential to safeguarding Tamil Nadu’s Cauvery water rights. He also demanded that parties unequivocally call for the abolition of the NEET system, which has been a major issue in the state.
The DMK MP further accused certain political voices of selectively condemning alleged attempts by the BJP to engineer defections while overlooking similar allegations involving the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). He also criticized the handling of protests against NEET, referring to alleged police action against protesting students.
Maran concluded his post by highlighting what he portrayed as contradictions and selective outrage in contemporary Tamil Nadu politics, saying ‘What a great betrayal!’ in response to a political leader’s remarks on the issues.
His remarks came amid an intensifying political debate in Tamil Nadu over the Cauvery issue and accusations of betrayal being traded between rival parties.
