The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and heavy rainfall to affect several districts of Arunachal Pradesh from Sunday. The weather office has warned that Papum Pare could receive very heavy rainfall, while heavy rainfall has also been forecast in isolated areas of West Kameng, Leparada, East Siang, and Lohit districts.
According to the district-wise warning issued by the meteorological centre, thunderstorms and lightning have also been predicted for several parts of the state. A ‘yellow alert’ (be aware) has been issued for Papum Pare, Lower Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, Lohit, Anjaw, and a few adjoining districts, while no warning has been issued for most other districts. Authorities have advised people to remain alert due to the forecast.
The weather is expected to improve across much of the state on Monday, although some districts are likely to remain under a weather watch. A ‘yellow alert’ has been issued for Anjaw, while parts of Papum Pare, Lower Siang, and Leparada are also likely to experience thunderstorms and rain. The forecast for Tuesday indicates a further reduction in adverse weather conditions, with only a few districts expected to remain under a yellow watch.
By Wednesday, weather conditions are expected to improve further, with only isolated districts in western and eastern Arunachal remaining under watch for rain and thunderstorms. The majority of the state is likely to be free from any weather warning. The IMD has advised people living in vulnerable areas to remain cautious during thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, as localised waterlogging, reduced visibility, and disruption to transport may occur in affected districts.
The ongoing spell of floods and landslides has so far claimed seven lives and affected 1,55,763 people across the state. The monsoon has affected 665 villages in 28 districts of the state so far.
