The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for several districts in the state over the next 24 hours. According to the IMD’s warning, Papum Pare and Lower Dibang Valley districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
The IMD has placed these two districts under an orange alert, indicating the possibility of severe weather conditions. Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for 18 districts, including Kurung Kumey, East Kameng, Pakke-Kessang, West Kameng, Lower Subansiri, Kamle, Upper Subansiri, Shi-Yomi, Siang, Upper Siang, West Siang, Leparada, Lower Siang, East Siang, Dibang Valley, Lohit, Anjaw, Changlang and Longding.
Residents in these districts can expect thunderstorms, lightning and spells of heavy rain. The weather office has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in Kurung Kumey, East Siang and Lower Siang, while heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning is likely in several other districts.
The IMD has advised residents, particularly those living in vulnerable and landslide-prone areas, to remain alert and follow weather updates. Heavy rainfall may lead to waterlogging, flash floods, landslides and disruption of road connectivity in several parts of the state.
The ongoing monsoon spell has already claimed seven lives and affected 1,53,553 people across the state. A total of 373 circles and 668 villages in 27 districts have been impacted by the floods and landslides so far.
