The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the only private university from Northeast India selected to participate in the live interaction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with students under the nationwide ‘Gen-Z Against Addiction – Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan.’ This prestigious programme, an initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, in collaboration with MY Bharat, aims to inspire the youth of the nation to lead a healthy, drug-free lifestyle and actively contribute towards the vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
The live interaction will be held on 2nd August 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Central Auditorium, USTM, where students will have the rare opportunity to directly engage with the Prime Minister and become part of a national movement promoting awareness against substance abuse. The selection of USTM for this prestigious national event reflects the university’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment, value-based education, nation-building, and social responsibility.
As part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ campaign, the NSS Unit of USTM has been actively promoting awareness against substance abuse through a series of impactful outreach programmes and student-led initiatives. These included awareness rallies, anti-drug pledge ceremonies, street plays, poster and slogan campaigns, interactive sessions, and community engagement activities aimed at educating young people about the importance of leading a healthy, drug-free life.
Established in 2011, the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) is the first state private university in the field of Science and Technology in North East India. The University was accredited with an ‘A Grade’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its first cycle of assessment in 2021 and was ranked among the top 200 universities in India for 5 consecutive years.
