Nongkseh made a triumphant debut in the Shillong Premier League, defeating neighbours Mylliem 1-0 at the SSA Stadium. The winning goal was scored by Aibiangmame Nongneng in the 45th minute of added time, securing a sweet victory for Nongkseh.
The match was marked by a series of tense moments, with referee G Marwein handing out multiple yellow cards to players from both teams. The tension eventually boiled over, with Mylliem’s Shaibor Nongrum and Nongkseh’s Arlangky Nongsiej both receiving their marching orders for second bookable offences.
Mylliem adopted a defensive approach in the first half, focusing on preventing Nongkseh from scoring. However, their strategy was undone by a stroke of bad luck. A defender’s attempt to clear the ball resulted in it falling to a Nongkseh player, whose shot hit the crossbar. The rebound was then seized upon by Aibiang, who scored the winning goal.
In the second half, Mylliem were forced to show more intent, but their efforts were hindered by Nongrum’s dismissal. Nongkseh continued to apply pressure, with Mylliem’s goalkeeper Rihoklang Khongjoh making two crucial saves to deny Hardy Cliff Nongbri and Sheen Sohktung.
Mylliem’s best chance came through Istarbor Marngar, but Nongkseh keeper Guidle Syiemlieh managed to gather the attempt. Aenam Jyrwa then counterattacked for Nongkseh, but his shot hit the woodwork.
The victory marked a successful debut for Nongkseh in the SPL, while Mylliem were left to lament missed opportunities and costly lapses. The next match in the SPL will take place on Tuesday, featuring Rangdajied United and Meghalaya Police.
