Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed gratitude to the public for their responses and positive suggestions to his video message, in which he announced the government’s decision to introduce a strict law to punish those involved in paper leaks.
In a fresh video message released through his Instagram handle, Mr. Modi said, “Thank you, friends. I got the opportunity to talk to you at midnight. The way you have responded to my video, positive suggestions given by you, thanks to everybody. Your love will continue to flow; our relations will continue with more bonding. Thank you, thank you friends.”
The draft Bill, which incorporates provisions for strong action against paper leaks, was approved by the Union Cabinet on Friday. The Bill will be introduced in the ongoing session of Parliament next week. Mr. Modi’s outreach to the youth came four days after thousands of students led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) took part in the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march to press for their demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over examination-related irregularities.
In his initial video message, Mr. Modi said that the issue of paper leaks is not a small matter and causes immense distress to lakhs of students and their parents. He stated that the government has taken numerous measures over the past two-and-a-half months following these incidents, and the culprits have been apprehended and are currently in jail.
The Prime Minister also announced the establishment of fast-track courts to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks. Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that the government would set up fast-track courts to conduct trials of examination paper leak cases, with day-to-day hearings to ensure justice is delivered soon.
BJP leaders and senior ministers welcomed the decision to form fast-track courts, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah stating that it reflects the government’s commitment to taking action against those who toy with the future of the youth due to paper leaks.
