Activist Sonam Wangchuk has been discharged from Safdarjung Hospital and shifted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram for further treatment, following a Delhi High Court order. According to Safdarjung Hospital authorities, Wangchuk was discharged on Tuesday evening and relocated to Medanta Hospital in compliance with the court’s directive. The Delhi High Court’s decision came after Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali Angmo, appealed against a previous order that refused to interfere with his ongoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.
Wangchuk has been on an indefinite fast since June 28, protesting alleged examination irregularities. At the time of his discharge from Safdarjung Hospital, Wangchuk’s vital parameters were reported to be stable. However, doctors noted that pancytopenia persists, and his serum potassium level was 3.4 mEq/L.
The high court’s order was passed by a bench comprising Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia. The decision marks a significant development in Wangchuk’s ongoing protest and treatment.
