In a significant operation, eight children and adolescents were rescued from various workplaces in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh and handed over to their parents through the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
The rescue operation was led by Changlang Deputy Commissioner Vishal Sah as part of the Pan-India Rescue and Rehabilitation Campaign 4.0, which aims to eliminate child labour and protect children’s rights. The operation involved search-and-rescue efforts at factories, mills, hotels, restaurants, dhabas, construction sites, and other vulnerable establishments across the district.
According to officials, eight child and adolescent labourers were rescued and safely handed over to their parents. Legal action has been initiated against the employers under the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986. Additionally, penalties have been imposed to support the Child and Adolescent Labour Rehabilitation Fund.
The district administration has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding children’s rights, preventing child labour, and ensuring that every child has access to a safe, secure, and dignified future. Sources have alleged that children are often employed at restaurants and hotels in Arunachal Pradesh, with some being brought from neighbouring Assam for work in hotels and dhabas.
It is reported that children from Adivasi communities are targeted and taken to Arunachal Pradesh for work in hotels and dhabas. Recently, several minors have been rescued from hotels and restaurants in Arunachal Pradesh and brought back to Assam.
The successful rescue operation highlights the efforts of the district administration and the Child Welfare Committee in combating child labour and protecting the rights of children in the region.
