Andhra Pradesh has witnessed a significant surge in power consumption in recent weeks, with daily usage reaching approximately 280 Million Units. According to Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, the intense heat has driven up demand, despite the onset of the monsoon season.
The state government has taken measures to ensure an uninterrupted power supply, with disruptions being promptly addressed by power utility staff. Coordination between local public representatives, district officials, and power utility officials has helped minimize inconvenience to consumers.
Minister Ravi Kumar emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining electricity tariffs for the next five years, highlighting the implementation of a true-down mechanism. Efforts are also underway to strengthen the transmission network by augmenting AP-Transco’s infrastructure and expediting the construction of new substations and transformers across the state.
The government is expanding electricity infrastructure to meet the requirements of upcoming industries, with power sector projects worth around ₹6,000 crore currently under implementation. Notably, the government has not increased electricity tariffs during the past two years and is entering its third year without a tariff revision.
Minister Ravi Kumar attributed the state’s industrial growth to the government’s efforts to revitalize the power sector, which he claimed was weakened during the previous YSR Congress Party rule. The coalition government has reportedly put the sector back on track.
