New Delhi is bracing for a large protest scheduled for October 10. Delhi Police’s Joint Commissioner Madhur Verma urged officers to practice restraint, emphasizing that police effectiveness lies in managing crowds with discipline, dignity and minimal force.
Verma posted on X, saying, “Prepare for the storm. Practise restraint. Protect the peace. Because the true strength of the police is not merely in controlling a crowd, but in doing so with discipline, dignity and minimum force.”
Security measures include the deployment of roughly 23,000 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to Delhi between October 8 and 12, bringing central force personnel in the capital to over 25,000, officials said.
The protest, called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), demands the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the special intensive revision of electoral rolls. Delhi Police denied the CJP’s request to protest at Jantar Mantar, citing prior rule violations and late application.
Additional precautions involve closing liquor shops on October 9 and 10, restricting entry and exit at 57 metro stations, reducing train frequency, and installing multi‑layered barricades, CCTV, and face‑recognition cameras across the city, according to a letter from the Joint Commissioner of Police (Transport Range).
Police also heightened vigilance at city borders—Ghazipur, Chilla, Tikri, Singhu, Gurugram, Kapashera, Loni, and Badarpur—to monitor movement into the capital.
