The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has formed a committee to monitor the implementation of the special intensive review (SIR) of electoral rolls currently underway across the state, as per the Election Commission of India (ECI) initiative.
Headed by Nabam Gandhi, the 8-member committee will oversee the SIR exercise, identifying potential challenges and anomalies, and ensuring that the interests of eligible citizens are protected. The committee will also collaborate with district students’ unions, local stakeholders, and authorities to facilitate a smooth process.
AAPSU president Meje Taku emphasized the importance of conducting the SIR in a fair, transparent, and inclusive manner. This involves house-to-house enumeration, pre-filled enumeration forms, and verification of existing voter records. Taku stressed that the democratic and constitutional rights of every bona fide voter must be safeguarded.
The union acknowledged that Arunachal Pradesh’s unique terrain and dispersed habitations pose significant geographical, logistical, and administrative challenges to the SIR exercise. As such, close observation and constructive public participation are necessary to ensure its success.
The AAPSU committee members are required to consult with the union president and obtain prior approval before finalizing any decision or recommendation.
Through this initiative, the AAPSU aims to ensure that no deserving voter is left out of the electoral rolls due to procedural or administrative lapses.
