Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu recently held a review meeting with a delegation from the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) to discuss key education-related issues in the hill districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong. The meeting, led by KAAC’s Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang, focused on improving access to quality education and strengthening educational infrastructure in the region. Progress and requirements of higher education and school education, including Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) and Adarsha Vidyalayas, were reviewed during the meeting.
This meeting follows a memorandum submitted by a KAAC delegation earlier this month, which highlighted concerns regarding the provincialisation of teachers and employees serving in Government Venture (Non-Provincialised) educational institutions across East and West Karbi Anglong. The memorandum also raised concerns about the provisions of the amended Education Act, 2025, and its impact on the unique circumstances of the Sixth Schedule areas. The KAAC delegation emphasized the need for greater flexibility in eligibility criteria, consideration of the educational realities of the hill districts, and inclusion of all deserving teachers and employees under the provincialisation process.
In response, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu assured the delegation that the state government is working closely with the Council to advance the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. The state government’s efforts aim to ensure inclusive, quality education for students across the hill districts.
