Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein recently felicitated meritorious students during an annual felicitation programme organised by the All Tai Khamti Singpho Students’ Union (ATKSSU) in Namsai.
Mein congratulated the awardees, expressing confidence that they would continue to excel academically and contribute meaningfully to society while upholding their communities’ rich cultural legacy. He commended the ATKSSU for its efforts in recognising academic excellence and inspiring students to strive for excellence while remaining rooted in their cultural heritage.
The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted the importance of education, stating that academic excellence must be the foremost priority for every student. However, he also emphasised the need for young people to prepare themselves to become job creators by exploring entrepreneurship and opportunities in the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector.
Mein observed that government employment alone cannot cater to the aspirations of all, stressing the need to promote self-reliance, innovation, skill development, and enterprise among youths. He also called for greater efforts to document and honour the contributions of unsung heroes, freedom fighters, and community elders whose sacrifices and vision have shaped society.
The Deputy Chief Minister further emphasized the importance of preserving the history associated with temples, historical sites, and other places of cultural significance, so that future generations remain aware of their identity, heritage, and values.
