Vice President C P Radhakrishnan warned on Monday that the use of terrorism as an “unlawful weapon” would ultimately harm the sponsoring countries’ own people. Speaking at the National Defence College, he urged political leaders in nations that support terror to recognise the long‑term consequences of such support.
He added that no country should encroach on the borders of others, noting that wars are raging in different parts of the world. Radhakrishnan said every nation must respect the sovereignty and self‑respect of other states, and that the current conflicts underscore the need for restraint.
The vice president outlined India’s national security priorities, citing the maintenance of a secure internal environment, protection of national unity and development, and safeguarding territorial, airspace and maritime interests, including trade routes vital to the economy. He also stressed the importance of protecting India’s cyberspace and strengthening constructive engagement with other nations to promote regional and global peace and stability.
Describing national security as essential for progress, Radhakrishnan said India’s ambition to become the world’s most powerful nation is not about imposing terms on others but ensuring no one can force unethical conditions on India. He lamented corruption as the biggest problem of the Global South and urged those attending the 66th course of the NDC to serve their nation with distinction.
