A training programme on “Recent Scientific Technologies in Mithun Husbandry” was held on Thursday in Nginu village, Longding district, organised by the Longding Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK). Seventy‑eight mithun farmers from Nginu, Ngisa and surrounding villages attended the event.

Course director Dr Tilling Tayo presented a comprehensive lecture on the salt and mineral licking block (SMLB) technology. He explained that the blocks attract free‑ranging mithun to specific forest sites, enabling easier monitoring, nutritional supplementation and health management.

During the session, Dr Tayo announced that SMLB units would be installed in both Nginu and Ngisa to demonstrate the technology under field conditions and encourage farmer adoption. Jomlo Mongku Mithun Farmers’ Federation chairman Tadang Tamut spoke about solar‑rechargeable tracking devices for monitoring mithun in forest areas, highlighted the need for regular foot and mouth disease vaccination, and demonstrated electrical stunning as a humane slaughter method.

Nginu village chief Longwang Wangham, Nginu‑Ngisa Mithun Farmers’ Association president Kaigam Pansa, secretary Genwang Wangsa and convener Bawang Wangsa praised the KVK for organising the first scientific training programme on mithun husbandry in the village.
