Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sanction an inter‑state Metro Rail link between Hosur in Tamil Nadu and Bommasandra in Karnataka, stating the project would benefit both states.
During the inauguration of passenger services on the Chennai Metro stretch from Poonamallee Bypass to Vadapalani, Vijay also called for early approval of Phase III of the Chennai Metro Rail project, which would extend approximately 65 km from the airport to Kilambakkam, Poonamallee to Sunguvarchatram and Koyambedu to Pattabiram. He said the extension would improve connectivity, strengthen public transport and provide comprehensive coverage of the Chennai Metropolitan Area.
Vijay outlined Tamil Nadu’s goal of becoming a $1.5‑trillion economy by 2036, emphasizing the importance of innovation, investment and infrastructure. He stressed that development should reach beyond Chennai to all districts, and urged the centre to reconsider proposals for Metro Rail projects in Coimbatore and Madurai.
The chief minister thanked the prime minister for announcing two high‑speed rail corridors connecting Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai in the Union Budget 2026. He also requested sanction for high‑speed corridors from Chennai to Kanniyakumari and Chennai to Coimbatore, arguing that the projects would benefit tourism and the broader region.
Vijay further urged priority for widening sections of NH 32, NH 81 and NH 87, and for the interlinking of the Godavari and Cauvery rivers. He reminded the centre of a Tamil Nadu Assembly resolution to make Tamil the principal language in Madras High Court proceedings and requested the release of ₹5,110 crore due under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan without conditions.
