The Food Safety and Drug Administration seized about 3,750 kg of spices and related materials from a manufacturing unit in Greater Noida West during a raid on Friday night, officials said.
The raid was carried out at Dharmesh Industries in Itahera village, within the limits of Bisrakh police station, as part of a crackdown on food adulteration directed by the district magistrate.
Seized items included 1,050 kg of turmeric powder, 525 kg of chilli powder, 315 kg of coriander powder, 125 kg of chilli seeds, 360 kg of coriander pieces, 140 kg of whole turmeric, and 600 kg of coriander stalk husk. Additional materials found were 180 kg of other material containing chilli seeds, 100 kg of soya nuggets, 300 kg of whole chillies, 60 kg of mustard oil, and two kilograms each of yellow and red colourants.
The department collected 13 samples, including the colourants and husk, for laboratory testing. An FIR was registered at Bisrakh police station under relevant provisions, and action to cancel the factory’s licence is being initiated.
Assistant Commissioner Sarvesh Mishra said inspections of food establishments will continue under the district magistrate’s directions to ensure consumers receive food and beverages that meet prescribed standards during the festive season. Samples will be tested and action taken where violations are found.
