Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured the Manipur government of full assistance in restoring peace and normalcy in the violence‑hit state during a meeting at his official residence in New Delhi. The conversation took place after Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh visited the Prime Minister on Saturday.
The Chief Minister briefed Modi on the state’s initiatives, including the resumption of Imphal‑Dimapur‑Guwahati bus services and the free flow of goods‑laden trucks on National Highways 37 and 2. He also highlighted efforts to reduce trust deficits among Manipur’s diverse communities and requested the conversion of select state highways to national status.
Khemchand Singh urged the Prime Minister to approve the upgrade of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal to All India Institute of Medical Sciences status and invited Modi to visit the state. The Prime Minister acknowledged these measures and expressed confidence that the situation in Manipur had improved.
The Chief Minister has been in the capital since October 8, holding separate meetings with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, and Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya. Shah and the other ministers assured the state government of forthcoming visits and full support for peace‑building efforts. The resumption of inter‑state passenger bus services between Manipur, Assam, and Nagaland on August 21 marked a significant step toward normalcy.
