Union Minister JP Nadda visited the hardest-hit parts of Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday, pledging full central support for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction after the flash floods and landslides that devastated the state. While touring Possa village and the adjoining NEEPCO Colony in Keyi Panyor district, he emphasized that the Centre, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stands firmly with the people during the crisis.
Accompanied by state Urban Affairs Minister Balo Raja, Yachuli MLA Toko Tatung, district officials and panchayat representatives, Nadda inspected flood‑ravaged residential areas, damaged public infrastructure and civic utilities. He met affected families and local officials to assess immediate needs, including healthcare and emergency assistance, and reviewed ongoing relief operations, relief camp functioning and plans for restoring essential infrastructure.
The disaster, triggered by heavy monsoon rain and a cloudburst on 24 July, has already claimed eight lives, affected 155,858 people across 28 districts and damaged 235 roads, 40 bridges, 75 culverts, 373 water supply systems, 161 power lines, 823 electric poles, 66 irrigation projects, 122 government buildings, 41 schools, 12 hydropower projects and numerous retaining and flood‑protection walls. Crop losses total 1,528.626 hectares, including 780.716 hectares of horticulture and 747.91 hectares of agriculture.
Nadda chaired a high‑level review meeting in Itanagar with Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, state ministers, MLAs and senior officers. He directed departments to intensify relief operations, strengthen rehabilitation efforts and ensure timely medical assistance. The minister reaffirmed the central government’s commitment to provide swift relief, financial assistance and all necessary support until normalcy is restored.
