New Delhi – Amid nationwide protests over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, the Central Industrial Security Force has increased the protection of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Additional reserve personnel were deployed to Kumar’s Delhi residence in New Moti Bagh Colony, the Election Commission office, and as part of his personal security detail.
The reinforcement took place on October 7 after a directive to boost the reserve deployment, officials said.
Kumar already receives Z+ security, the second‑highest level in the country, below the Special Protection Group that covers the prime minister and his family. The move does not raise his category; it simply mobilises more reserve officers based on threat assessments.
The INDIA coalition, led by Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra along with Samajwadi and Trinamool Congress members, has called for the CEC’s resignation, accusing the Election Commission of acting as a puppet of the government.
Officials said the extra reserve personnel are deployed as needed and that the existing Z+ cover remains unchanged, describing the action as a precautionary measure amid the current security situation.
