Mamata Banerjee, the chief of the Trinamool Congress, announced on Thursday that she would travel to New Delhi after receiving a request from leaders of the INDIA Alliance to join an ongoing protest movement.
Banerjee had originally intended to send her aide Abhishek to the capital, but after her name was added to a list of leaders seeking an appointment with the President, she decided to attend personally. She said that the decision was also influenced by the desire of people in Bengal to see her present in Delhi.
The leader also addressed the planned protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on October 10 at Jantar Mantar. She declined to comment on the strategy at this stage, noting that the CJP had a relationship with Gen Z and that further details would emerge later.
During her remarks Banerjee expressed support for the right to protest across India and voiced concern over the treatment of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, describing it as “not right” and calling for respect for women. She also highlighted that the CJP had formally notified Delhi Police of the demonstration, which would be led by youth on election and voter list issues.
