The Madras High Court Registry has filed a complaint with the Greater Chennai Commissioner of Police after discovering that documents purporting to be court orders had been forged to facilitate the deportation of five Bangladesh nationals. The complaint, submitted on 6 October 2026, follows a directive from Justice V. Lakshminarayanan to verify the authenticity of the alleged proceedings.
The five individuals—Bilal alias Mohammed Bilal Syed, Y. Salim, and Bimal Sutrada alias Laxman Das—filed separate writ petitions in the High Court seeking orders that the Foreigners Regional Registration Office in Chennai and state police take steps to deport them. They presented copies of what they claimed were official orders from the Registrar (Judicial) dated 8 October 2025 confirming clearance for deportation, and also cited a purported document from the Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services.
Justice Lakshminarayanan, shocked by the documents, directed the Registry on 1 September 2026 to verify whether such proceedings had been issued. The Registrar (Judicial) submitted a report on 8 September 2026 confirming the documents were forged. Additional Public Prosecutor Arun Anbumani noted that the petitioners had also attached a document claimed to be issued by the Director General of Prisons, but the officer confirmed no such document existed.
Central government standing counsel M.P. Jaisha informed the court that a forgery complaint had already been lodged with the Central Crime Branch in 2025 and an FIR had been registered. Following the court’s directives, the Registry lodged the police complaint on 6 October, and Justice Lakshminarayanan has asked for a police status report by 10 November 2026.
