Narayana Murthy, co‑founder of Infosys, spoke to a student audience on University Day at O.P. Jindal Global University in Sonipat. Under the theme “Ethical Leadership, Transformative Growth & Technology: The Infosys Story & the Future of India,” he emphasized that ideas and entrepreneurship are the engines that can create jobs and elevate India to developed‑nation status.
Murthy described failure as a series of steps toward success. He urged students not to be demotivated but to learn lessons from failures and avoid repeating mistakes. He compared scientists and researchers—who are trained to introspect and restart when results are not immediate—to entrepreneurs who must think rationally, concentrate, and then succeed.
He added that the softest pillow is a clear conscience and that doing the right thing should become a benchmark. Recalling his university days, Murthy said he was raised in a value system that prized respect from society as the most satisfying outcome of an entrepreneurial journey.
Finally, he noted that everything we do in life is the result of the culture instilled by family, peers, and our environment. He stressed that hard work, honesty, respect, and integrity must come before personal gain and that these values shape every action.
