A public forum organized by Pragna Bharati in Warangal adopted a unanimous resolution recommending that the new airport be named Kakatiya Maharani Rudrama Devi Airport. The meeting, called the ‘Charcha Vedika’, attracted historians, legal experts, academics, doctors, lawyers and citizens, all of whom voted in favor of the proposal.
Organizers said a formal memorandum will be submitted to the Chief Minister, Governor and the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has recently opened a public suggestion process for naming the airport in Mamnoor, following the state government’s completion of land acquisition and the handover of the site to the Airports Authority of India.
Vice‑President Mamidi Giridhar of Pragna Bharati highlighted Rudrama Devi’s military leadership, administrative reforms, irrigation projects and promotion of trade as the main reasons for naming the airport after her. He noted that the name would reflect Warangal’s historic ties to the Kakatiya dynasty and complement the Kakatiya‑style architectural motifs planned for the terminal.
The resolution cited Rudrama Devi’s emphasis on public welfare and referenced the Kakatiya‑era chain‑tank irrigation system and the ‘Abhaya Sasana’ at Motupalli port as examples of the dynasty’s approach to water management and commerce. Speakers at the event included Prof. V. Somasekhar of NIT‑Warangal, former chairman of the Indian Council of Historical Research, and Prof. Y. Sudarshan Rao, among others. The forum’s joint secretary Chamarthi Prabhakar Rao and other members also participated in the proceedings.
