Stones were thrown at the Thiruvananthapuram District Congress Committee office and the Anavoor mandalam committee office was set on fire last night, according to reports from Thiruvananthapuram.
Keralam Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala expressed strong displeasure at the attacks and said that the police would investigate the incidents through CCTV footage and take strict action against the culprits. He added that while protest is a right, violence would be met with police intervention. Chennithala also stated that attacks on party offices are not part of Kerala’s political culture.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee chief and state Electricity Minister Sunny Joseph condemned the incidents and demanded decisive police action. He claimed that the attacks were not isolated, citing threats made by “BJP criminals” to Congress leaders in the Neyyatinkara area. Joseph alleged that the BJP leadership encouraged the violence and called it a continuation of black‑flag protests by Yuva Morcha.
The black‑flag protests began after Youth Congress workers waved black flags at Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Kerala. Yuva Morcha activists have blocked the vehicles of the Chief Minister and other ministers and threatened to continue the protests until action is taken against those responsible for the attacks.
