BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran addressed voters in the Madurantakam Assembly constituency on Tuesday, urging them to scrutinise the alleged horse trading that led former AIADMK legislator Maragatham Kumaravel to resign and join the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). He warned that the electorate should consider how much money was exchanged in the process.
“There has been horse trading here. How much money did the MLA get? If the person who was elected by you has resigned and is being fielded again as a candidate by the TVK, we have to think about how many crores of rupees were given by the TVK,” Nagenthran said, highlighting the financial implications of the switch.
The BJP leader was campaigning for the AIADMK candidate nominated for the Madurantakam by‑poll. He also contended that the state exchequer would incur unnecessary expenditure because of the legislator’s resignation.
In addition, Nagenthran criticised Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s recent trip to London, arguing that an agreement with Ashok Leyland could have been signed while the chief minister remained in India. He further accused the police force of being uncontrolled, stating that “the police force was not in anybody’s control.”
