A resident of Nevadda Paras village in Hardoi district, Suraj Tiwari, lodged an unusual complaint with the state’s public grievance portal on September 26, accusing Lord Indra, the Hindu god of rain, of causing relentless rainfall without warning. Tiwari described the downpour as “sometimes heavy and sometimes slow,” disrupting daily life and urging the district magistrate to employ “divine contacts” to halt the rain.
The heavy rainfall has taken a severe toll in Hardoi. A press note from the administration reports that between September 25 and 27, seven people died and seven were injured in incidents linked to the rain, snakebites, and other weather‑related events. Thirty cattle also perished, and 330 houses were damaged. Sandila tehsil was the hardest hit, with two deaths, six injuries, and damage to 87 houses.
Rescue teams have been active in evacuating residents from water‑logged areas and relocating them to relief camps. Food, drinking water, rations, and accommodation have been arranged for affected families. According to Additional District Magistrate Dipali Bhargava, waterlogging is being cleared and roads and electricity services have been restored, while relief operations continue.
The three‑day spell of continuous rain has affected large parts of Uttar Pradesh, with at least 56 deaths reported across the state during the period, underscoring the severity of the prolonged weather event.
