A 65‑year‑old woman was beaten and tied to a tree in Nomula village near Hyderabad on 23 September, police said. The attack was carried out by a group of people who accused her of practicing black magic.
The incident, which was filmed and posted on social media, shows the woman being struck and bound to a tree after the group alleged that she had attempted to perform black magic on a minor boy.
The woman’s son filed a complaint with the police, stating that a group entered their home, assaulted his mother and then tied her to a tree. When he confronted the attackers, they also beat him and other family members and damaged his car with sticks and stones.
After receiving information about the assault, police rescued the woman and counselled the villagers. DCP Maheshwaram Zone K. Narayana Reddy said a case was registered against 14 people at Manchal Police Station, and several of the accused have been arrested.
