Mumbai police arrested two individuals, including 23‑year‑old Harshkumar Thakor from Gujarat, on Saturday for allegedly submitting a forged letter to secure a U.S. visa.
Thakor, a resident of Gojariya in Mehsana district, and an agent named Vinay Pathak were identified by police. The complaint was lodged by an overseas criminal investigator at the U.S. Consulate in Mumbai’s Bandra‑Kurla Complex.
The alleged fraud surfaced during Thakor’s visa interview when consulate officials grew suspicious of a purported joining letter from the India office of a shipping company. Consulate staff sent a copy of the letter to the company for verification and were informed that Thakor was not an employee and that no such letter or employment document had been issued.
During a preliminary investigation, police found that Pathak had fabricated the documents. The complaint says the duo exchanged WhatsApp messages, with Thakor agreeing to pay Pathak after the visa was processed. Thakor holds an Indian passport issued in Ahmedabad, and authorities are searching for his uncle who introduced him to Pathak. The arrested pair were produced before a Bandra court, and a further probe is underway.
