BJP Unveils New Team Under Nitin Nabin

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Nabin unveiled his national organisational team on Monday, seven months after taking charge. The list signals continuity and organisational experience in major positions, with the return of some important party men and women.

The team includes former Union Minister Smriti Irani as general secretary and former party general secretary Ram Madhav as vice president, marking their comeback to the BJP’s organisation. Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb and Rajya Sabha MP Satish Poonia have been appointed as general secretaries, reportedly as a reward for their organisational work during the West Bengal and Haryana Assembly elections.

Amit Malviya, who was in charge of the BJP’s social media team, has been replaced by Deepak Mhaskey from Chhattisgarh. The appointment of Union Minister of Commerce Piyush Goyal as treasurer is also significant, as he will hold two posts - one in the government and another in the party organisation.

The new team announced by Mr. Nabin has tried to strike a balance between the exigencies of immediate political challenges and the fact that this would also be the team under which the BJP will face the 2029 Lok Sabha election. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the newly appointed national office-bearers of the BJP, saying the team brings together organisational experience, energy, and grassroots connect.

The team includes 64 office-bearers, with six members below 40 years of age, 15 members between 40-49 years, and 21 members between 50-59 years. There are 12 women among the office-bearers, six of them vice presidents, and around 40% of the team comes from marginalised communities across 23 States.

The immediate challenge for the new team will be the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Goa. The team’s composition, with a mix of youth and experience, is expected to provide a relook to the BJP’s online strategy after the recent Gen Z protests.
