A 95-year-old woman, identified as Indrawati, the mother of IPS officer Ashutosh Mishra, was found dead at her home in Rudha Dhamrua village, Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday, August 17, 2026. According to police, her gold jewellery was missing from the scene.
The victim’s body was discovered by a domestic worker around 9 a.m. on a cot inside her house. The worker alerted the neighbours, who then informed the police. Indrawati lived alone in the house after the death of her husband, a former government inter-college principal.
Ashutosh Mishra, currently posted in Lucknow, reached the village around 3 p.m. and lodged a complaint against unidentified persons for murder and robbery. Police reported that a gold chain, nose pin, earrings, and anklets were missing, while other household items appeared undisturbed. The family suspects that thieves entered the house on Saturday night, August 15, 2026, and killed Indrawati before taking the jewellery.
Malipur SHO Shashank Shukla stated that the actual cause of death would become clear after the post-mortem report. The police are currently investigating the death and the missing jewellery.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed grief over the incident and criticized the state government, saying that even the police are not safe in Uttar Pradesh.
