Saurav Das, a spokesperson for the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP), has alleged that his family was intimidated by the Puducherry police at their home. However, a senior Puducherry police official has denied the claim, stating that the visit was a routine exercise for security purposes ahead of important days like Independence Day. According to the police official, it is standard procedure to visit people living in the vicinity of important routes and ask them a few questions.
The official rejected allegations of harassment and intimidation, calling them false. Saurav Das took to social media to express his concerns, stating that the Pondicherry police had shown up at his family’s home two hours prior and subjected them to questioning. He questioned the motive behind the visit, asking if it was a legal procedure and if the BJP government in Pondicherry was trying to intimidate his family at the behest of the Union government.
Das further stated that the intention to intimidate him into silence would not work and would only strengthen his resolve to build a better system where the police uphold the law instead of acting like goons. He also pointed out that Union Minister Amit Shah had visited Puducherry just two days ago, meeting with the Home Minister of the Union Territory and the Lieutenant-Governor, and questioned if the intimidation tactic was planned at their meeting.
