Delhi Minister Ashish Sood stated that the Delhi government’s Laxmi Yojana is aimed at creating a wider social impact by improving the financial independence of women in the national capital. The scheme, which was launched by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in the ongoing Monsoon Session of the Delhi Assembly, provides a monthly assistance of Rs 2,500 to eligible women beneficiaries.
According to Sood, the scheme may not transform lives overnight, but it can significantly improve the economic conditions of women beneficiaries. He emphasized that the scheme will financially empower women of Delhi. Sood made these remarks during a Delhi Assembly session where AAP MLAs stayed away from the proceedings, boycotting the Session.
Sood criticized the opposition’s absence during the discussions, reflecting their lack of interest in the issue. He also took a swipe at AAP convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, alleging that the party in Punjab failed to fulfill its promise of providing Rs 1,000 monthly assistance to women.
BJP MLA Shikha Rai stated that the scheme is not merely about financial assistance but also reflects the government’s commitment to women. She emphasized that when a government’s intentions are sincere, its promises do not remain confined to paper – they are fulfilled. Rai also criticized the previous AAP government, alleging that women were misled with promises of financial support that were never implemented.
The beneficiary registration portal for the scheme was opened on June 1, and the first instalment will be released on August 28. The first-year allocation for the scheme stands at Rs 5,100 crore. BJP MLA Gajendra Singh Yadav described the scheme as an election promise that the government had fulfilled within a short period, with women across Delhi expressing their gratitude for this initiative.
Yadav described Gupta as a family-oriented chief minister and shared an account of a beneficiary who expressed happiness over the scheme and conveyed a message to the chief minister, saying that Rekha sarkar’s scheme has empowered women in need.
