Joe Rogan, the popular podcaster, has expressed concerns over the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran, stating that there is ‘no clear way’ to end the war. Rogan made these remarks during an episode of his show, where he was joined by investigative journalist Annie Jacobsen to discuss her new book, Biological War: A Scenario.
Rogan and Jacobsen discussed the government’s handling of Covid-19 and the possibility of future pandemics before turning to the conflict in the Middle East. Jacobsen described the war as ‘terrible’ and ‘unnecessary’, stating that it is the opposite of what the Department of Defense was designed for. She also pointed to a ‘big shift’ that occurred during the Iraq war, which left soldiers feeling ‘used’ and led to a ‘fundamental warping of what the military is’.
Rogan responded by saying that he is also concerned about the war, stating that there is ‘no clear way to resolve this at all’. He also mentioned that the US stockpiles are running dry and bases are getting blown up by drones. Both Rogan and Jacobsen lamented the fact that the coverage of the war has focused on its financial cost rather than its human toll.
According to the Pentagon, 18 US service members have been killed and hundreds have been wounded in the conflict. President Donald Trump has framed the American death toll as relatively low compared to past conflicts. However, as of March, 3,636 people have been killed in Iran, nearly half of whom were civilians, according to human rights group HRANA.
Rogan also stated that the war makes America an enemy and less safe, as it gives Iran a reason to attack back. Multiple recent polls indicate that many Americans are on the same page, with nearly two-thirds of respondents saying that the conflict has not been worth fighting.
Rogan, who endorsed Trump on the eve of the 2024 election, has openly criticized him on multiple occasions, including over his immigration crackdown and the Epstein files. The comedian’s comments come as Trump’s approval ratings continue to decline, with the latest polls showing that he has the support of just 34% of Americans.
