A manhunt is underway in Chicago for a gunman who injured six people, two critically, in a late-night drive-by shooting in the city’s Humboldt Park neighborhood. The shooting occurred at around 2 a.m. outside a large gathering, where an unidentified offender discharged a firearm, striking multiple victims. According to the Chicago Police Department, the victims range in age from 33 to 46.
Two men, aged 35 and 36, are in critical condition after being shot multiple times. The 35-year-old was rushed to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, while the other man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. In addition to the critically injured men, a 33-year-old man was shot in the finger, a 39-year-old man was shot twice in the thigh, a 46-year-old woman was shot in the back and twice in the foot, and a 34-year-old woman was shot in the hip.
The police department has not released the identities of the victims or the suspect. The shooting occurred as a late-night party began to wind down, according to a neighbor who witnessed the incident. The neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, told Block Club Chicago that the shooting started suddenly, with multiple shots fired in quick succession.
The witness was on the opposite end of the block when the shooting occurred and did not know any of the victims. Police received multiple 911 calls describing around 30 shots being fired, including reports of a man hit on a porch. The unidentified suspect remains at large, and the Chicago Police Department has launched an investigation into the shooting.
The Independent has contacted the Chicago Police Department for comment on the ongoing investigation.
