A mass shooting at a Toronto street festival has left two people dead and at least four others wounded, according to police. The incident occurred on Saturday night at the Salsa on St Clair festival, a celebration of Latin culture that has been a mainstay of the community for 22 years.
Toronto police warned the public of an active shooting in the area of St Clair Avenue W and Arlington Avenue, where revelers were enjoying the festival. Six people were hit in the shooting, with two confirmed fatalities, police said in a social media post around 8:20 p.m. City officials have warned the public to stay clear of the area as the investigation continues.
A large police presence remains in the area, with officers working to secure the scene. However, the suspect or suspects remain at large, police noted in a social media post. Ontario Premier Doug Ford has thanked law enforcement for their response and urged the person responsible to face justice.
Ford expressed his devastation at the senseless violence, which has claimed two lives and injured others.
