A woman’s complaint of losing a leg following treatment at a Sebaashray health camp has led to the booking of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee, officials said on Sunday. The Sebaashray initiative, a healthcare outreach program, was launched by Banerjee in West Bengal a few months ago. Abhishek Banerjee, the MP from Diamond Harbour, unveiled the Sebaashray initiative on January 2.
This is not the first time he has faced allegations related to the health camps. Two FIRs have already been filed against him in connection with alleged irregularities in Sebaashray health camps. The latest FIR was registered after Maloti Biswas, a resident of Maheshtala in South 24 Parganas district, filed a complaint with the police.
According to her complaint, Biswas had attended a Sebaashray health camp a couple of months ago with knee pain and was prescribed medicines. However, her condition worsened after taking the medicines. Biswas alleged that when she approached another Sebaashray camp, doctors demanded a large sum of money for treatment.
After she refused to pay, they referred her to a government hospital. Biswas was subsequently admitted to a government medical college hospital, where doctors found that the damage to her right leg was irreversible, leading to its amputation. An official at the Rabindranagar police station confirmed that an FIR had been registered against Abhishek Banerjee and others based on Biswas’ complaint.
The police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
