Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan underwent surgery on his right shoulder in a Mumbai hospital on Saturday morning, July 11, 2026, for relief from a severe rotator cuff injury. The surgery, which lasted three and a half hours, was performed.
The Deputy Chief Minister will have to undergo another surgery for his left shoulder, which also has a rotator cuff injury, after a gap of two months. Doctors advised against operating on both shoulders simultaneously, citing the likelihood of increased pain during the recovery period. Mr. Kalyan initially sustained the shoulder injuries in 2016, but continued to participate in various programs despite being advised rest by doctors.
The injuries worsened over time, particularly during his Porata Yatra in 2018, when enthusiastic party cadres and fans would frequently pull his hands and shake them, causing him pain. The physical strain on his shoulders increased further during his Varahi Yatra and tour of the Rayalaseema region after the 2019 elections, but Mr. Kalyan chose to ignore the condition. Chief Minister N.
Chandrababu Naidu wished Mr. Kalyan a speedy recovery and good health.
