The Mumbai Crime Branch has carried out a series of raids across the city in connection with a major mephedrone drug bust that took place in May. The raids, which were conducted at 13 locations, are part of an ongoing investigation into a large-scale mephedrone manufacturing and trafficking network. According to officials, the Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) had initially seized mephedrone worth Rs 50.74 crore, along with weapons and equipment used to manufacture the substance, from a residential flat in south Mumbai’s Agripada area.
The discovery of the drug manufacturing unit led to a wider probe, which revealed that the chemicals used to produce the mephedrone were procured through online orders from 11 different companies. However, further investigation revealed that none of these companies existed, and the addresses on which they were registered were fake. As part of the ongoing investigation, 10 ANC teams carried out raids at 13 locations across Mumbai, including Agripada, Bandra, Colaba, Powai, and Ghatkopar.
Local residents are being questioned, and information is being collected to identify all the stakeholders in the drug manufacturing and supply chain. Local residents are being questioned and information about the bogus companies is being collected to identify all the stakeholders in the drug manufacturing and supply chain, the official said.
