Punjab Police’s Counter‑Intelligence wing arrested a woman on Sunday for allegedly transmitting classified information about military installations to Pakistan’s Inter‑Services Intelligence (ISI). The suspect, Gurnoor Sidhu, a resident of Faridkot, was taken into custody near an under‑construction bridge on the Hussainiwala border road and is currently being interrogated.
Police received information on Thursday that the accused were conspiring to share classified details of military zones and cantonments with Pakistani agencies. Two Army personnel, who were deployed along the India‑China border, are also booked. They allegedly collected sensitive information while the soldiers were on duty, and Sidhu is accused of facilitating its transmission through mobile phones, tablets and the internet.
A case has been registered against the three accused at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) police station in Fazilka under relevant sections of the Official Secrets Act. Security agencies are investigating whether sensitive information relating to the Faridkot military cantonment was transmitted to Pakistan.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of the alleged espionage network and the roles of those involved.
