The Delhi Police seized approximately 590 kg of firecrackers, valued at an estimated Rs 50 lakh, from a concealed compartment above a shop in the Jama Masjid area of central Delhi. The seizure was announced by a police officer on Sunday following a surprise raid.
The raid was carried out by the Vigilance Branch on 8 October at a shop in Bazar Guliyan, after receiving specific intelligence. Officers discovered a hidden wooden panel in the shop’s ceiling that opened into a large storage space filled with various types of firecrackers.
Two individuals, Janki Dass and Abheek Dass, were apprehended at the scene. During questioning, they reportedly disclosed that the firecrackers had been supplied by a third party, according to police statements.
An FIR has been registered at the Jama Masjid police station. Investigations are now underway to identify the supplier and others involved.
