Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL) hosted the Northeast Region Gas Conclave 2026 in Guwahati on Friday, bringing together policymakers, regulators and industry representatives to discuss expanding natural gas infrastructure and boosting its adoption across the region.
The event, organised with Resonance Energy at the Vivanta hotel, focused on the four pillars of natural gas—availability, accessibility, affordability and acceptability. IGGL CEO Subrata Das opened the conference by noting that the Northeast Gas Grid is expected to be completed soon, stressing that close coordination among stakeholders is essential to translate infrastructure investment into a gas‑based economy.
Discussions covered domestic production, LNG imports, pipeline connectivity and distribution networks, as well as safety standards and market expansion. Participants underscored the need to link gas‑producing areas with consumption centres, improve infrastructure utilisation and make natural gas more accessible to industry and other consumers.
Technical sessions featured representatives from City Gas Distribution companies such as Assam Gas Company Limited, GAIL Gas, Arunachal Gas, Indraprastha Gas Limited, Bengal Gas and HPOIL Gas Private Limited. An exhibitors’ forum showcased technologies and services for the natural gas sector, while a poster session highlighted innovations from Oil India Limited, ONGC, Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited, and PBGPL.
IGGL’s Northeast Gas Grid is designed to connect all eight northeastern states to the National Gas Grid via a 1,670‑km pipeline network. Phase I, covering 553 km across Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 13 March 2026. The Duliajan Feeder Line, with a capacity of 3.5 million metric standard cubic metres per day, transports indigenous gas from Oil India Limited into the national grid. IGGL, a joint venture of Indian Oil Corporation, ONGC, GAIL, Oil India and Numaligarh Refinery, concluded the conclave with calls for stronger coordination among government agencies, energy companies and regulators to support a gas‑based economy in the Northeast.
