New documents released by ABC News show that Jane Doe, the former Cornell student who alleges she was gang‑raped at a fraternity house party in October 2024, told one of the accused men that she remembered looking up and feeling that there were too many people.
Records indicate that several men accused of assaulting Doe tried to contain the allegations in the weeks after the incident, while Chi Phi fraternity members engaged in what campus authorities described as “damage control” to keep her from being upset. The university suspended the fraternity and expelled two members following a police report filed on November 8.
During phone conversations with Matthew Ingalls, which Doe recorded, she asked him whether he remembered how the men entered the party. Ingalls replied that the door was unlocked and the gathering was crowded, but did not mention messages he sent to fraternity members. Doe also recorded calls with two other men, during which her accusations were echoed and the men denied wrongdoing.
Cornell’s president, Michael Kotlikoff, released an eight‑minute video addressing the controversy, expressing sorrow over Doe’s experience and acknowledging shortcomings in the investigation. He confirmed the university’s commitment to an independent review, as requested by Governor Kathy Hochul, and supported the decision to hand the criminal investigation to the state attorney general.
