Donald Trump has added a new justification for the U.S. war in Iran, saying the Operation Midnight Hammer strike targeted drug factories in the country. Speaking at a rally in Durant, Oklahoma, he described the bombing as carried out by “unbelievable machines” and “incredible pilots”, claiming the attack hit both drug and nuclear facilities.
Earlier this week Trump also linked Iran to an attempted hijacking of an Israeli aircraft and warned that the United States would retaliate if evidence of Iranian involvement emerged. He told reporters that any confirmed connection would lead to a “very hard” response.
Despite declining approval ratings, Trump insisted that his administration holds the best numbers of any president, citing his record on the war and other policy areas. He made the claim during a stop in Denton, Texas, as part of a two‑state swing that also included a visit to Choctaw tribal lands in Oklahoma, framing the GOP’s image problem as a PR issue.
The broader regional context remains tense, with Yemen’s internationally recognized government carrying out 20 strikes on Houthi targets in Taiz province, and the G7 agreeing to release strategic fuel reserves.
