The recent Vinayaka Chaturthi immersion ceremony left the Vinayaka Sagar water body in a state of disarray, prompting the government to initiate a cleanup under the ‘Ek Din Ek Ghanta Ek Saath’ initiative within the ‘Swachchatha hi Seva – 2026’ campaign.
The tank was selected because of the large number of idols that were dumped, many made of plaster of Paris and painted with chemical and synthetic substances. The drive was inaugurated by Tirupati MLA Arani Srinivasulu in the presence of several officials, including TMC Commissioner M. Jayakrishna, Yadava Welfare Corporation Chairman G. Narasimha Yadav, Greening and Beautification Corporation Chairperson M. Sugunamma, Thathayagunta Gangamma Devasthanam Chairman N. Mahesh Yadav, and TDP constituency in-charge J.B. Srinivas. The legislator emphasized that achieving a ‘Swacchh Tirupati’ is a shared responsibility of citizens, not only civic administrators and sanitation workers.
Commissioner Jayakrishna urged public participation in the Shramdan movement, which runs from September 17 to October 17 across all fifty divisions of the municipal corporation.
