Ten people were killed and 17 injured in rain‑related incidents across Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, as 63 districts recorded above‑normal rainfall and some areas faced a moderate risk of flash floods.

The state received nearly nineteen times its normal rainfall in the past 24 hours, with heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds damaging standing crops and 117 houses. Five people died in separate mud‑wall collapses, while five others and 14 injured were victims of uprooted trees in districts such as Lakhimpur Kheri, Amethi, Barabanki and Gorakhpur.

In Gajarhiya Tola, a 55‑year‑old sal tree fell on a hut, killing 55‑year‑old Subhash, 45‑year‑old Gyanmati Devi and 13‑year‑old Kishan Prajapati, and seriously injuring two others. A mahua tree in Gagaha area killed Bhim Kumar Vishwakarma on the spot, and an 80‑year‑old pakad tree in Jatepur Dakshini struck a house, injuring four people and damaging electricity poles.

Lucknow logged 125.8 mm of rain in 21 hours, while Farrukhabad received 200 times its normal rainfall, Kanpur Nagar 160 times and Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat and Hardoi 130 times their usual amounts. The India Meteorological Department forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across eastern Uttar Pradesh, with a depression moving north‑northwestwards toward the state.

Waterlogging and traffic disruptions were reported in many areas, and low‑lying residents struggled as rain continued overnight. Farmers warned of crop losses, and schools were closed under red alert in districts vulnerable to flash floods. District administrations were ordered to issue weather warnings and advise residents to avoid unnecessary travel.

Relief teams visited hospitals, and officials urged people to contact the helpline 1070 for emergency assistance. Fire services, armed constabulary, civil defence and Aapda Mitras were kept on standby for rescue operations. A political leader posted a video of waterlogging on the Ganga Expressway, calling for its renaming.
