McDonald’s has revived its long‑running Monopoly promotion, this time exclusively through the fast‑food chain’s mobile app. The game, which returned in 2025 after a ten‑year pause, will begin on October 6 and is designed to be a streamlined, app‑centric experience.
To participate, diners must first download the McDonald’s app, join its Rewards program, pre‑register for the Monopoly contest, and then order eligible items from the “Monopoly at McD’s” menu. Once the prerequisites are complete, customers peel a game piece from the packaging of items such as large fries or large hot and cold drinks, then scan the piece in the app to register their entry.
McDonald’s will distribute roughly 640 million game pieces across participating restaurants, with prizes ranging from free food to a Carnival cruise, a 2027 Jeep Cherokee, up to $50,000 toward a home down payment or college debt, and cash awards of up to $1 million.
The promotion was halted in 2015 following the McMillions scandal, in which former police officer Jerome Jacobson stole game pieces to win $24 million in prizes. The scheme, uncovered in 2001, led to a decade‑long pause before the brand returned to its classic Monopoly format last year and now offers a fresh, digital‑first version.
