A 55‑year‑old Sydney woman was sentenced to three years in prison, with an additional year added for the disposal of her husband’s body, after pleading guilty to murder and dismemberment.
Nirmeen Noufl pleaded guilty to killing her 62‑year‑old husband Mamdouh Noufl, claiming self‑defence but exceeding lawful force. The husband was reported missing in July 2023, and his body was never found. Noufl was arrested in October 2024 after police searched the couple’s home in Greenacre.
During the trial, both prosecution and defence agreed that an argument in May 2023 turned physical. Noufl said she was pinned to the kitchen floor and choked, then stabbed her husband with a renovation tool, believing her life was in danger. She then dismembered the body, using a saw and plastic fragments, and disposed of the remains in garbage bags with a witness.
Justice Peter Hamill expressed that he was not satisfied beyond reasonable doubt of premeditated intent. He described the disposal as “disturbing” and “remarkable and chilling,” noting its relevance to remorse, rehabilitation and future dangerousness. The judge also considered Noufl’s history of childhood dysfunction and domestic violence. She will be eligible for parole in October next year.
The court heard testimony from the couple’s children describing a gravely abusive relationship, while Mamdouh’s relatives spoke of his positive qualities. A nephew angrily questioned the dismemberment. Noufl’s lawyer called the case a tragic set of circumstances and said her client is remorseful and plans to live with her children post‑release.
