Target Opens 8 New Stores, Launches New Uniform Line

Target announced a series of developments this week, including the opening of eight new stores on October 11 in the Hamptons, New York, Ohio, Mississippi, Texas, Virginia, and Tennessee, and the debut of a new line of employee uniforms called Collection186.

The retailer said it will invest an additional $1 billion on top of the $5 billion already allocated to build new stores, remodel and refit existing locations, according to Retail Dive. The new uniforms will be designed by Target’s in‑house design team with input from fashion designer and Target Creative Director At Large, Isaac Mizrahi.

Collection186 takes its name from the specific shade of red used by Target, Pantone 186, and will include crew‑neck T‑shirts, polo shirts, cardigans, blazers, and vests. Gena Fox, senior vice president of design, said the pieces were created to be “unmistakably Target” and to offer staff more wardrobe options that feel fresh, expressive and thoughtfully functional for their day‑to‑day work.

Target celebrated the opening of its 2,000th store in March in Fuquay‑Varina, North Carolina, and added six more locations in May in Arizona, Missouri, New Jersey, and North Carolina. The company is also remodeling 130 existing locations.

In its most recent quarter, Target reported a 5.3 percent increase in net sales from a year earlier, totaling $26.5 billion.
